Children’s Programs

Babytime!

Babytime is perfect activity for little ones aged 0-12 months and a caregiver or parent. While babytime is great for providing fun skills for babies, it’s really for parents. Join us to meet new people have have fun while doing it! Get to know the person next to you—it’s a fun way to get out of the house and expand your world in the busy reality of parenting. Our current Babytime session begins November 4 and runs through December 17 on Tuesdays at 1:30pm. We’re looking forward to seeing everyone for the last 6-week session of the year!

Toddler Time!

If you haven’t been to Toddler Time, then you’re in for some fun! Join us for a morning session open to children aged 1-3. No registration is required for this fun program of activities, songs, books and much more to keep your toddler moving and learning. We are running one last 6-week session for 2025, then taking a quick break over the holidays and we’ll start again in early 2026. Join us on on tuesdays from Nov 4th – Dec 17th at 10:30am!

Storytime!

Join us for Storytime on Wesnesdays! We sing songs, read great books and practice lots of early literacy skills in a fun manner. Our current Storytime session is running from September 10th – December 17th! We are also running several special storytimes including: October 29 (Dress in a Halloween costume!), November 26 (“Movember” – Wear your silliest moustache), December 17 (It’s a PJ Party! Wear your coziest jammies or cozy sweater). No registration is required for this fun program.

Intergenerational Storytime

Intergeneration storytime is paused until Spring 2026. Join us in spring 2026 for a smaller version of storytime in a quiet environment that really makes a difference in the lives of the residents. No registration required–just arrive a few minutes early and be prepared to have fun.

French language storytime

The Carleton Place Public Library is proud to partner with Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est to offer a monthly French language storytime program! No registration is required–just come to the library on one of the Saturday mornings listed in our calendar and enjoy a fun hour of stories and songs in French. French Language Storytime returns on Saturday, November 15th at 10:30am & Saturday, December 6th at 10:30am!

Reading Dragons & Friends

We are launching our first ever Reading Dragons program at the Carleton Place Public Library! Join us to help promote reading for kids of all ages and build your own collection of mythical creature cards! See below for more information on how Reading Dragons works, and how to start collecting!

Alzheimer’s Society Caregiver Support Group

These bi-weekly meetings for caregivers are offered to any person caring for a loved one living with dementia. Join a representative from the Alzheimer’s Society of Lanark Leeds and Grenville to learn about coping strategies and to meet others in similar situations. Drop-ins are welcome, but connecting with the Alzheimer’s Society beforehand is appreciated. Halifax Explosion Author Visit with Michael Dupuis

Join us on the anniversary of the Halifax Explosion–Saturday, December 6th at 1pm at the Carleton Place Public Library, for a talk about the historical event by local author Michael Dupuis. Dupuis joined us earlier this year for a fascinating discussion about the Winnipeg General Strike of 1919 and promises to regale us with lots of interesting information and history about the Halifax Explosion that took place in 1917.  No registration is necessary, but if you’d like to attend, please feel free to send a quick email to hsinnett@carletonplace.ca and we’ll send you a reminder the week of the session.

“Neda’s Creation” Artist and Author Visit with Neda Laketic Soc

Local artist and now author Neda Laketic Soc will join us on Saturday, December 13 at 2pm to talk about her work, her career and her fine art book called “Neda’s Creation”.  Rooted in the rich artistic traditions of the Balkans and now based in Ottawa, Neda Laketic is a multidisciplinary artist whose work spans sculpture, painting, and contemporary multimedia forms. Drawing on her former Yugoslavian heritage, her art reflects a deep engagement with both cultural history and modern expression.
If you are interested in art and the creative process, this will be a fascinating afternoon. There will be signed copies of “Neda’s Creation” available after the session for $35 each, cash or e-transfer only, please. To register for this event, please email Heidi at hsinnett@carletonplace.ca

    Neda’s vibrant career includes participation in numerous group exhibitions, from Artcite’s Summer Art Fest in Ontario to art residencies and showcases in Serbia and Portugal. Her art and creative journey have been profiled in media outlets such as Windsor Life Magazine, RTV Serbia, and the Windsor Star. Now retired from professional life and dedicated fully to her art, she embraces time with her two children, tending her flourishing garden, traveling the globe for inspiration, and enjoying the quiet company of her cats.

    This is a great session to meet new people in the community and get out of the house---and your baby will have fun, too!  
     
    Sessions have a maximum of 15 adults and babies as we need space to spread out. Plan on coming early to secure your spot, and if you happen to arrive late, we have some fun take-home kits for those who might not be able to attend that week.  
     
    No registration is required, but every week is different---we'll do our best to fit in as many people as possible.

    The Carleton Place Public Library is proud to partner with the Alzheimer's Society of Lanark, Leeds and Grenville to offer a Caregiver Support group.  These monthly meetings for caregivers are offered to any person caring for a loved one living with dementia.  Join a representative from the Alzheimer's Society of Lanark Leeds and Grenville for opportunities to develop a social network, coping strategies and to meet others in similar situations.

    Drop-ins are welcome, but connecting with the Alzheimer's Society beforehand is appreciated. Interested participants can contact the Alzheimer Society of Lanark Leeds and Grenville at 866-576-8556 or e-mail Geralynne Smith at Gsmith@alzllg.ca.
